Termite Control Palm Beach Gardens FL | Types of Termites That Infest Your Home

When it comes to your home, you can never be too protected from pests and other vermin that could not only spread disease but also severely damage your home. Finding the right termite control Palm Beach Gardens FL can be difficult, but you will need the right service to handle any termite infestations that might happen throughout the year.

Native Subterranean Termites

One of the most common types of termites in South Florida is the native subterranean termites. They are typically dark brown with wings and are usually 0.3 inches long. They usually swarm from February and March on sunny afternoons following any rainfall. What sets them apart from other termites is how they build shelter tubes in the foundation of buildings to connect their population to food sources above.

Formosan Subterranean Termites

Unlike native subterranean termites, Formosan subterranean termites are relatively new to South Florida. They were first found in Broward County in the 1980’s and typically swarm from April to June at dusk. They are found around light fixtures, by windows, and around other well-lit areas. Unlike other termites, this type can infest multiple buildings at once, so it is important to call an expert when you discover an infestation.

Asian Subterranean Termites

Much like the Formosan subterranean termites, Asian subterranean termites are new to South Florida. They were first discovered in Miami around 1996 and spread quickly. By 2001 they were discovered in Lauderhill and in Riviera Beach in 2005. They are a yellow/brown color, have hair on their wings, and are around a half inch long. They swarm from February to April and are one of the most dangerous species of termites.
